        dog behavior growling
a question for anyone who has knowledge of dog behavior?

Can you tell me why my dog Great Dane (8 months) play fighting with my son (19), when my son has to go in the chest (like "give me a hug") legs on his shoulders. the mouth of it (not bite) and grunt. My son like it or encourage him to do and not do with anyone else that we will go over them like that. It becomes a conflict because it irritates my son and I do not like. Does anyone know what the dog is "saying" when this happens. Just the other day my brother – n-law let him do that and he only licked her face and mouth but did not growl or getting too out of control. I told my son not to let him do everything, but likes to get the hug and the dog others do too. Sorry if this is confusing, and please only respond if you know what I'm trying to say and you have a suggestion. And my son never hit him, he is your friend. but he (son) has "pinned" he (dog) on the floor playing with him.

You ought to see the interaction between the puppy and his son at other times – but this puppy is now 8 months as a teen (hormones). If the puppy jumps on the shoulders of others, without grunting involved, there is something in your relationship with your child (or how the dog perceives) it is causing. At least for now, your child has to stop making him jump on it. It sounds like the puppy is starting to think that is the alpha in this relationship. Suggest your child make a simple little puppy obedience (at home only, no classes). Work on sit, stay, down, come and heel. Give the dog a lot of praise, treats or both. Just obey the commands of his son to change this relationship back to where it should be. I believe, however, also part of the age of puppy, but not something that should be allowed to continue, it could climb. Once the dog is safe in your mind that your child is in a position high in the home he, things should be fine.
